As much as I love Tiffany, I feel they don't mind the fakes as much as they claim. Once a person gets stuck with a fake, they'll never buy over the internet again. Tiffany has earned a lifelong customer. The people who have a positive experience buying on ebay, will continue to buy that way. If you can find sellers who accept returns, then you need to learn how to tell the counterfeits. This is not an easy task, I know. For the most part, the great number of counterfeits are silver (or fake silver) and made to look like current designs. I have seen a lot of pieces engraved "Elsa Peretti" and she had nothing to do with the design of these pieces. The engravings are generally not clean, off center or inappropriate to the design.

I wish Tiffany & Co. would come out with some guidelines as how to recognize fakes. Its hard to tell the people who are legit from the scam artists.

It is tough to be a customer. I want to product. I buy 50% direct from Tiffany & Co. and 50% over Ebay but who knows what is the real deal.
